The story is set in a high school where the student council president Satsuki Kiryūin (voiced by Ryōka Yuzuki) rules by force and this edict for absolute power:

The freedom that is fear
The liberation that is control
The truth that is a contradiction

Wielding a giant Basami scissors sword, the wandering transfer student Ryūko Matoi (Ami Koshimizu) brings about upheaval on the campus. Ryūko searches for the mysterious figure who caused her father’s death.

Standing in her way are the “four divine kings” on campus:

Aya Suzaki plays second-year student Mako Mankanshoku, Ryūko’s best (and only) friend

Ryūko is aided by Senketsu (Toshihiko Seki), a talking sailor uniform who tells her, “Wear me. When I am worn by you, this power will become manifest.”

Ayumi Fujimura plays Mako’s little brother, Yukari Fukui plays Mako’s mom, and Kenyuu Horiuchi plays Mako’s dad. (The voice actor or actress for the Mankanshoku family’s pet Gattsu has not been revealed.)

The anime reunites several production staff members from Gurren Lagann: director Hiroyuki Imaishiseries script supervisor/writer Kazuki Nakashimacharacter designer Sushio (key animator/animation director on Gurren Lagann), and the animation Trigger Studios (co-founded by several former Gurren Lagann staffers).

Akira Amemiya is serving as assistant director, and Shigeto Koyama is directing the art with set designer Yoh Yoshinari. Hiromi Wakabayashi is credited as “creative officer,” and Hiroyuki Sawano is scoring the soundtrack. Miku Sawai contributed the ending theme song “Gomen ne, Ii Ko Ja Irarenai.”

The show will premiere on Japan’s MBS television station on October 3. Aniplex of America has licensed the series for release on home video, and the company plans to stream the series this fall.
